Quiet Observer of Rising Light

Lapping of the water,
Whispers of the trees,
Twitters of the air,
Murmurs of the mist,

Behind the gold-edged cloud,
Stars say farewell,
fade into the incoming blue;
The moon holds onto its place
In the flowing sky,

Colors slip into void,
Dyeing the fragments of cloud,
Altering the light’s hue;
One diamond ray falls
And pierces the timid mists,

The breaths of autumn,
Curling, silky winds,
Sun-filled and lighthearted,
Red leaves,
Lined with white,
Sprinkled with brown,
Edged with gold,
Dancing faint shadows,
Rich flurries of dryness,

Skimming over the water, I see
The ripples blur
The reflections fade
Into a uniform smoothness
Like the speeding of a tempest. Like the soaring of a gust!

With the copper rays beaming,
The leaves glistening,
The waters lilting,
The winds merrymaking,
I flap my wings
And fly into the sun of day.
